Founded 2011

Built by an Olympian and a teacher.

Tim Morehouse founded Fencing in the Schools in 2011 to give kids the same opportunity fencing gave him. A Teach For America alum, three-time Olympian, and silver medalist at Beijing 2008 — Tim taught middle school in New York City public schools before building FITS.

From the Olympic podium to the classroom

In 2008, Tim Morehouse stood on the Olympic podium in Beijing with a silver medal around his neck. But even in that moment, he was thinking about the kids back home—the ones who would never have the chance to discover what fencing, and sport, could do for them.

He came home and founded Fencing in the Schools in 2011 with a simple conviction: fencing isn't just a sport for the elite. It's a transformative discipline that builds focus, resilience, and character in young people. And every kid deserves access to it.

Today, FITS is re-launching wide-scale school programming across New York City — partnering with the Mott Hall public schools and the Democracy Prep charter network to bring fencing, academics, and Olympic values to students in Harlem, the Bronx, Washington Heights, and beyond.

Built by an Olympian, a teacher, and a world-class coach.
